What to see in Olsztyn Old Town

Olsztyn's Old Town gathers around a market square lined with gabled burgher houses and cafes, still partly enclosed by surviving stretches of the medieval city walls. It is a short, walkable centre linking the castle, St James Co-Cathedral and the High Gate.

The Old Town Hall on the market square

The brick Old Town Hall was raised in 1623-24 on the foundations of a medieval hall that burned down in 1620. It long served as the seat of the magistrate and court, and today holds the Provincial Public Library.

Walking the market square in Olsztyn

The square works well as a base for a slow walk through the centre, with terrace cafes for a break between the main Old Town sights. Most of Olsztyn's core landmarks sit within a few minutes on foot.
