Castle Park (Podzamcze Park)

Castle Park (Podzamcze Park) is a landscaped green space directly below the Warmian Chapter Castle in Olsztyn, laid out along the Łyna river on the site of former water mills. People come here for an easy riverside walk between the Old Town and the water, taking in decorative fountains, the historic Mill Bridge and a small waterfall, all in the shadow of the castle above.

The park is arranged around water. Two decorative fountains stand out, 'Symfonia Ptaków' (Symphony of Birds) and 'Ryba z dzieckiem' (Fish with a Child), and the Łyna adds a small waterfall as it passes through. Crossing the river is the historic Młyński (Mill) Bridge, a reminder of the milling activity that once defined this stretch. Paths wind between the greenery and the riverbank, with the castle rising directly above.

The site takes its name from its position at the foot of the castle (podzamcze means 'below the castle'). For centuries this riverside land held water mills powered by the Łyna, and the surviving Mill Bridge carries that history in its name. The area was revitalised in the late 2010s, turning a working stretch of river into a landscaped space for walking and rest.

This is a relaxed park rather than a ticketed attraction, well suited to a short stroll, a pause by the water or a break between sights. Families will find the fountains and river a draw, and the flat riverside paths make for easy walking. There is no admission, though for any events or seasonal details it is best to check official city channels before you go.

Castle Park links the Old Town with the river, so it slots naturally into a walk that also takes in the castle above and the neighbouring Central Park alongside it.
