Grand Hotel Stamary

The hotel was designed by architect Eugeniusz Wesołowski and built between 1903 and 1905 in brick, local dolomite stone and oak, an early attempt to render Zakopane's highland building style in masonry rather than timber. It takes its name from Maria Budziszewska, the opera singer whose stage name Stamary joined her own name to her father Stanisław's. In its early decades it drew guests such as Ignacy Paderewski, Joseph Conrad and the painter Wojciech Kossak.
