Grand Café

Grand Cafe is a cafe on Krakowskie Przedmiescie, Lublin's main pedestrian promenade, made for a coffee-and-cake pause. It is the sort of unhurried stop you fold into a walk through the centre, a place to rest your feet and watch the street go by. For the wider city around it, see the Lublin guide.

The draw is simple: coffee and cake on the promenade. This is a stop for a mid-morning break or an afternoon slice rather than a full meal, and its position on the main pedestrian spine is a large part of the appeal. The promenade is where much of Lublin's street life plays out, so a table here comes with a steady flow of passers-by. Sit with a drink, take in the crowd, and move on to the sights. It suits anyone who wants a calm coffee between sights, couples on a slow afternoon, and travellers pacing a day on foot. The cafe is on Krakowskie Przedmiescie, the promenade running from the Krakow Gate past cafes and townhouses to the New Town Hall. That puts the centre and the edge of the Old Town within a short walk, easy to reach on foot. Plac Litewski and its fountains lie at the far end, so the cafe sits midway between the two main draws of the centre.

The café belongs to the IBB Grand Hotel Lublinianka at Krakowskie Przedmieście 56, so the coffee-and-cake stop comes with a heritage address. The building went up in 1899 and 1900 for Lublin's Commercial Chamber, to a design by the Warsaw and Łódź architect Gustaw Landau, and settled into its present shape around 1910. A coffee shop has been part of the ground floor for much of that history: there was one, with breakfast rooms, between the wars, and a Lublinianka Cafe downstairs after the building became a hotel in the 1950s.

The Von der Heyden Group restored the hotel and reopened it as a four-star property in May 2002, with IBB Hotel Collection managing it since 2003. For the café's current hours and menu, confirm through the hotel's official channels rather than any fixed listing.
