Trains or buses, which is better?
Quick answer
Trains are faster and more comfortable between big cities; buses are cheaper and reach places trains miss. For Warsaw, Krakow, Gdansk and Wroclaw, take the train.
For the main cities, take the train. Between smaller towns, or when the fare matters more than the clock, take the bus. They cover different needs rather than competing head to head.
When the train wins
On the fast corridors between Warsaw, Krakow, Gdansk, Poznan and Wroclaw, intercity trains are quicker, roomier and let you walk about. Booked ahead, they are also good value. This is the default choice for a city-to-city trip.
When the bus wins
Long-distance coaches such as FlixBus are usually the cheapest option and reach places off the fast rail lines. They also run useful direct links that would need a train change. The trade-off is time and traffic, especially near cities.
