Can I pay by card everywhere?

Card payments are accepted almost everywhere, including small shops, taxis, trams and market stalls, and contactless is the norm. Carry a little cash only for rural areas, some milk bars and tips.
Yes, in practice. Poland is close to cashless, and contactless card payment works in supermarkets, restaurants, taxis, ticket machines and even many market stalls. Tapping a card or phone is the normal way to pay.
Where cash still helps
Keep a small amount of zloty for the few places that prefer it: some older milk bars, rural buses, tiny shops, church donation boxes and tips. An amount around 100 to 200 PLN in small notes covers most trips.
Cards and fees
Visa and Mastercard are accepted everywhere; American Express less so. If a card machine offers to charge you in your home currency instead of zloty, decline it and pay in zloty, because that conversion (dynamic currency conversion) usually costs more. A low-fee travel card or a digital bank keeps charges down.
