Are shops open on Sundays?
Quick answer
Most shops are closed on Sundays under Poland's trading ban, with limited exceptions such as small convenience stores, petrol stations and bakeries, plus a few designated trading Sundays. Plan groceries for Saturday.
On most Sundays, the large shops and supermarkets are closed. Poland has had a Sunday trading ban since 2018, so plan your groceries and general shopping for Saturday.
What stays open
The ban has exceptions, so a Sunday is not a total shutdown:
- Small owner-run convenience stores, including many Zabka branches.
- Petrol-station shops, bakeries and florists.
- Pharmacies (some on a rota) and shops at railway stations and airports.
- Restaurants, cafes, bars and, of course, museums and attractions.
Trading Sundays
A few Sundays each year are exempt and the big shops open, mostly before major holidays. In 2026 there are eight such trading Sundays, including dates before Easter and in the run-up to Christmas. The exact dates change every year, so if a Sunday shop is essential, check the current calendar before you travel.
