Restaurant in Poznań
Ratuszova
A vaulted cellar on the square, a long-standing choice for hearty regional plates.
Reviewed and updated July 2026
Ratuszova is a cellar restaurant set in the vaults under the Old Market Square, and a long-running choice for traditional Polish cooking in the centre of Poznan. The setting is the draw as much as the food: brick arches and a candlelit, old-town feel a few steps from the town hall.
Hearty regional plates
The kitchen leans to hearty regional plates, the kind of Polish home cooking that suits the cellar surroundings, from soups to meat mains. It works for a sit-down dinner after a day in the Old Town rather than a quick bite. This is comfort food in a period setting rather than modern experimentation. For the current menu and prices, check the restaurant's own channels.
Inside the vaulted cellar
The vaulted cellar does much of the work. Brick arches, low light and candles give it an old-town feel a few steps below the square, warm in winter and cool in summer. It suits a relaxed dinner and a group happy to settle in for an evening rather than a quick lunch on the move.
Who Ratuszova suits
Good for visitors who want traditional Polish cooking in a characterful room right on the square, and for a group dinner near the main sights. If you would rather a livelier, drinks-led night, Whiskey in the Jar sits nearby.
On the market square
Ratuszova is on the Old Market Square, next to the town hall with its noon goats. For another traditional Polish table close by, Bamberka sits on the same square. See the Poznan guide for more.
The restaurant has a longer record than most: it trades as Ratuszova A.D. 1954 and has run on the same spot for more than seventy years. The cellar keeps its Gothic vaults, survivors of a tenement burned in the 1945 siege of Poznan and rebuilt in 1953, and the address itself housed King Jan II Kazimierz in 1657.
The cooking stays with Polish classics such as roast duck with apples and zurek. There is also a cafe with views over the Old Market Square and the town hall, and apartments in the same building. Confirm opening hours and booking through the restaurant's own channels.
Good to know
A central sit-down spot on the square, so it draws visitors. Book ahead at busy times and check official channels for hours and the current menu.
