Museum of Travelers (Tony Halik Museum)

The Museum of Travelers is a branch of the District Museum in Toruń dedicated to Tony Halik, the Toruń-born reporter and television traveller, and his partner Elżbieta Dzikowska. People visit to see the personal souvenirs, artefacts and equipment the pair collected on decades of journeys across the world, brought together in one place to tell the story of two of Poland's best-known travel personalities.

The displays are built around objects Halik and Dzikowska gathered on their expeditions, spanning South American cultures through Asia and Oceania. You move between souvenirs, cultural artefacts and the practical equipment they used on the road, which together trace routes that ran across several continents. Because the collection grew out of two people's actual travels rather than a single region, it reads as a personal record of a life spent moving between very different parts of the globe.

Tony Halik was born in Toruń and became one of Poland's most recognised globetrotters, working as a reporter and travel presenter whose programmes introduced distant places to Polish audiences. Elżbieta Dzikowska, his partner, travelled and filmed alongside him, and much of what is shown here reflects their shared work. Basing a museum on him in his home city gives the collection a direct link to Toruń itself.

The museum occupies a historic granary, one of the tall brick storehouses that were part of Toruń's long trading past on the Vistula. Setting a collection about world travel inside an old merchant building creates a fitting contrast between local heritage and objects carried home from far away. The building is part of the experience, so it is worth looking at the structure as well as the exhibits.

The museum sits on ul. Franciszkańska in the Old Town, so it pairs easily with the other District Museum sites and landmarks within walking distance.
